About the L2 Bracelet

Problem- A Life Threatening Issue in the Special Needs World!

"See a need take the lead;" a famous quote with a nice message. Not only did we internalize the message, we acted upon it! We saw that many families/parents/caregivers of children with special needs were living in distress. Why? Because of the fear of wandering. Wandering occurs when a cognitively disabled individual escapes his caregiver's watch. It is not intentional, nor is it to spite the caregiver. The child is giving in to an urge and signal that his body is sending. It is screaming to escape, run, break free from your shackles and bonds. But what happens next? He is alone, trapped within himself, and lost, with no way to get back to his loving caregiver. On the caregiver's end there is fear, guilt, and chaos. Everyone is searching, searching, searching. Sometimes it ends well, with a happy reunion. Unfortunately, many times it does not.  How can we avoid the pain, the fear, the suffering? How can we put an end to the deaths and stop episodes of wandering? This is where the L2 Bracelet comes in!

When a child with special needs wanders death is highly probable. Watch the video below to see and hear about many examples.

Abstract

Your One Stop Shop- The Problem and Solution

Have you ever spent a day in a special needs environment or do you have a special child of your own? Do you have any relatives or acquaintances with Alzheimers? How does it feel to have the responsibility of their supervision on your shoulders alone? What would happen if you turned away for a moment? Would they still be there when you turned back? Roughly fifty percent of children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder)  alone wander. Additionally, 6 out of 10 people with Alzheimer's are at a high risk of wandering.

The product that we are creating will resolve this issue. The basis of the product is a radio- wave sensor worn by both the person with cognitive disability and the caregiver. It will alert the caregiver via an alarm and light when the child/adult moves a distance of 15 feet. Through this, many accidental cases of elopement and wandering will be avoided. These linked bracelets will alert the caregiver that the child/adult is attempting to wander before he/she has the ability to run a far distance.  This will avoid many stressful search efforts.

The bracelets will use a radio- wave sensor. If the bracelets move a certain distance apart and lose signal, the bracelet will be triggered. The trigger will make the bracelet light up using an LED, and cause it to beep from a speaker. Through these signals the caregiver will be alerted about the attempted elopement and much distress will be avoided.
